Socially Nude
- The ballad literature of series of complaints regarding technology
Greg & Sam
Technology has shortened the distance between oceans, the world have finally come to an era where distance is no longer an issue: computer chat softwares, web cams, mobile communications, blackberry messenger, and the infamous iphone. One might think that the absence of distance is a good thing, yet it has brought a detrimental effect to this so-called 'comfort'. The current discomfort are, as follows:
Privacy is the quality of being secluded from the presence or view of others or the desire to condition themselves to conceal or being hidden. The irony in terms of privacy is that, we champion so dearly that it almost seemed like we always want to be secluded and we hear things in TV or just in general social occasions, "CAN'T YOU RESPECT MY PRIVACY?!" or "CAN'T YOU GIVE ME SOME F**** SPACE!"
Yet the very same people who says those things, frequently, also has a facebook account that permits people to see his/her pictures (that anyone can save), location, school, current school, and (the best part) personal INFORMATION. What we're trying to say is (wetellitlikeitis) that we allow ourselves to be socially nude while simultaneously desire to be closed and secluded. In lament terms, WHAT THE F*** DO WE REALLY WANT?
First we complain that the communication delay (lag) is not enough, and at times it seemed like its never enough, but now it is overwhelming.
"Privacy vs. transparency: By the sharing of information, a relationship can grow closer and stronger. However, this need for self-disclosure conflicts with the need for privacy felt by each individual in the relationship. When these needs are at odds with one another, a relational tension is created over how much disclosure is desirable." (Baxter & W.K Rawlins, 1988)
