Reporters working for online media are obliged to be capable of multitasking, such as having the ability to write, showing some skills in photography, knowing how to brows the net, and being able to post their news. It is also necessary for them to be able to work under pressure; since they have to face deadlines for each and every news coverage. Last but not least, online journalists need to be aware and understand the standards of journalism.

The length of the articles needs to be short in connected to other related news articles. Research says, people only endure reading news on the internet for three minutes per visit. Each day, an individual reads online news up to 3-5 times during certain periods of time. This means that the reporters need to be prepared with a number of news so that the consumers are satisfied.

Page views and visitors are two important factors that an online journalist needs to be concerned about. Page views determine the value of banner advertisements. This means to say that the higher the number of page views, the higher the value of the banner advertisement. Thus, writing short, interesting and interrelated articles becomes the way of increasing page views. The most accurate tool for an online site, including news sites is called google analytics.
